You can expect a thorough and personalised oral health assessment during a new patient dental exam. Here’s a breakdown of what typically happens:
1. Medical and dental history: We love first-time dental patients. We’ll take the time to get to know you as a person and your medical and dental history. We’ll discuss any existing health conditions, medications, allergies, and previous dental treatments. This information helps us to tailor your treatment to meet your specific needs. Our friendly, judgment-free team will make you feel at home.
2. Comprehensive dental exam: Your teeth, gums, and other oral structures will be examined by our dentist, who will look for indications of gum disease, tooth decay, oral cancer, crowding, and other oral health problems. Typically, the dentist uses an intraoral camera to inspect even the trickiest corners of the mouth.
3. Digital X-rays: Have you had dental X-rays taken in the last six months? You can bring them during your appointment. However, it’s fine if you don’t have them because we always take X-rays for every new patient. Dental X-rays allow us to inspect the structures beneath the gum line, such as the tooth roots and the jawbone. X-rays unearth tumors, bone loss, impaction, tooth infection, and other hidden issues that may not be visible during the visual examination.
4. Oral cancer screening: Our office provides oral cancer screenings to detect oral cancer at its earliest stage when it’s easily treatable. Mouth cancer exams are painless and quick—the dentist completes them in as few as five minutes.
5. Dental cleaning: The dentist uses special tools and skills to remove built-in plaque and tartar from areas you can’t access with your toothbrush.
6.Treatment plan: Based on your exam results, we’ll discuss treatment options to restore your optimal health. Your treatment plan may include periodontal care, fillings, root canals, crowns, or extractions. Our team will guide you until you achieve your healthiest smile.
Our team is excited to welcome you and provide the personalised care you deserve. Whether you are changing dental practices or new to the area, Red Hill Dental Practice is here to make your experience positive and stress-free—call (03) 5907 5942 to make an appointment.
